A sight of you

I left home early today trying to beat the traffic.

My usual response upon the sight of heavy morning traffic on my way to work would normally involve some forms of silent cursing and fist-banging against the steering wheel.

But not today, not this morning.

Today is different because i spotted something significant in the endless sea of moving vehicles in front of mine: another car to be exact.

But that wasn’t just any car, it was a car with a color too familiar to me, not to mention the recognizable combination of alphabets and digits on the number plate, it was a car where i used to be a passenger or even an occasional driver in it, on a daily basis.

That could only mean one thing--It was YOUR car right there, not too far ahead from mine, and i was almost certain that YOU are the one behind the wheel.

I don’t have the right words to capture my exact feeling during that split second, as i realized i was fast approaching you while your car were on the jammed-up lane next to mine.

Right about 3 seconds after, as my car was pushing forward, i tried to steal a peek through the moving motion and all the way into your car, which ended up registering a glimpse of you.

You were clueless about any of these when i overtook you and got stuck at the turn i was trying to take.

The rate of my heartbeat was building up as i noticed the light on your side had gone green--the flowing traffic were eventually going to bring you closer to me from behind.

I observed the rear view mirror while your car came nearing mine, stared out straight ahead as you passed me by, and then i swore i could almost caught your surprise face trying to turn back towards my direction to get a good look and even slowed your car a little bit when you found me in such close proximity.

But still, the flow of the traffic brought you away.

And so, we continued on our respective journey.

........................

However, exactly as i've expected, my phone rang with your caller id beaming on the screen before the day ends, which then led to a long conversation over the line, one that i was way too reluctant to hang up in the end.

Goodness, how much i miss you, i can never tell.

Looks like leaving home a bit earlier for work does has its own reward.
